About Bhavani G.S

Bhavani G S does not need much of a introduction to the photography, art & nature aficionados in the garden city. She is possibly most widely known for her work on the River Cauvery, called “Journey with the River Cauvery”, a lyrically beautiful documentary shot by her during her solo journey from Madikeri to Poompuhar, following the great river, and capturing the myriad moods of the river & the people who live around it, and exploring her very personal relationship with this river as well.

The work she does in different media has the common theme of an exploration of Nature & its textures, order, structure and matter of the natural world. She lists the primal forests of Kodagu as one of her most deep influences; in her own words, “It is here on the forest floor that my sensitivity as an artist blossoms, it merges with each leaf, grasses, flower, wood , clay, sand, every single pod of seed that seems to bare its inner self to me. I attempt to experience the landscape, observe and feel it physically. I try to relate to the qualities and energies of that place and evoke the same in my work.”

Bhavani G.S. completed her post Graduate degree in Painting from Chitrakala Parishat Bengaluru, Karnataka in 2003. She was the recipient of Junior fellowship- Culture Department, Lalithakala Academy Scholarship, Arnawaz  Vasudev Scholarship for 2004 and 2005, the Nagarathnamma memorial trust Scholarship, the Akila Bharathiya Vidya Parishat award and Robert Bosch grant-Bengaluru. She was on residency in Sri Lanka and 1shanthiroad Bangalore.

Bhavani has exhibited her works at various international venues such as for the Whispers of the Woods show organised by the Vietnam Fine arts Association at Hanoi in Vietnam, the Textures from Life and Nature show at Auckland, New Zealand, Seeing To a Distance show at Melbourne, the 2011 Sub-urban show at Rotterdam, Holland, the Pink Night group show in Italy etc. She participated in many group shows in Bengaluru., Australia, Italy, USA, Cairo, Kuwait and other cities in India, and is one of the citizens of Bangalore who do our beloved city proud.
